Fatima Bokhari\u2019s journey into fashion feels less like a career pivot and more like a return to herself. Growing up in a home alive with colour, texture, and thoughtful detail, she absorbed a love for creation almost unconsciously. Her mother, Suhaila Mahmud, an accomplished artist who designed Pakistan\u2019s 50th anniversary logo and exhibited internationally, taught her that beauty is both intentional and deeply human. Those early years instilled in Fatima a sensitivity to art, a reverence for craft, and a belief that meaningful work carries emotion as much as it carries skill.<\/p>

After moving to the UK to pursue a Master\u2019s in Economics & Finance at Warwick Business School, Fatima began her career in banking, drawn to its structure and stability. While intellectually engaging, it left her creatively unfulfilled. It was only after stepping away from this path that she returned to what had always called her – the arts. She enrolled at Le Cordon Bleu and honed her craft in boutique patisseries, discovering the thrill of working with her hands, where precision, discipline, and visual harmony came together in edible art. It was here that she realised how deeply fulfilling it could be to create something that resonated with others.<\/p>

Motherhood became the catalyst for Princess & The Cake\u2019s next evolution. While pregnant with her first child, Fatima felt compelled to create joy for her son, collaborating with her mother to design a children\u2019s collection. Together, they worked with master artisans in South Punjab, reviving centuries-old hand-embroidery techniques – smocking, French knots, and mirror work – to create garments that are heirloom-quality, deliberate, and soulful. The response was immediate, sparking the very popular #mummyandme trend and leading to a full womenswear line.<\/p>

Today, Princess & The Cake collaborates with 250+ women artisans across South Punjab, in Pakistan. More than clothing, the brand is a celebration of craft and heritage, bringing global recognition to women whose talent is deeply rooted in tradition yet resonates far beyond it.
